Vineyard: There is a continental climate in the area with hot summers and cold winters.The area is little susceptible to the north winds and the winds of the Atlantic because it is protected by the Serra Mesão. The soil consists mainly of granite and slate.
Vinficiation: This port comes from the best grape vines of ‘RD du Douro’ and is made and bottled according to the traditional method. Harvesting takes place between the beginning of September and the end of October. Fermentation in stainless steel cuves. The must undergoes a fermentation process, which is stopped by the addition of brandy of 77% vol when the desired sweetness is reached. The wine ages 30 years in barrels, after which it is separated from the sediment and if necessary the alcohol percentage gets adjusted.
Tasting notes: The color of this port changes to brownish red due to maturation. In the nose we find fruity aromas with taste notes of nuts and caramel.
Food pairing: Dried fruit, farm ham and game; duck or goose liver with orange or pear; Portuguese cheeses, mature Gouda and blue cheeses; desserts.
